Fisker Automotive was an Anaheim, California-based manufacturer of luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that focused on high-end, eco-friendly automotive design and production for the premium market. During its primary operational lifespan, the enterprise successfully manufactured and delivered over 2,000 units of its flagship Fisker Karma hybrid sports sedan to its global consumer base. At the peak of its manufacturing operations, the company maintained a corporate workforce of up to 600 employees before experiencing severe financial difficulties and ultimately filing for bankruptcy in the year 2013. The company's original vehicle assets and design legacy were subsequently acquired and continued by Karma Automotive, while its creator later established a completely separate entity called Fisker Inc. alongside Bernhard Koehler. Fisker Automotive was originally founded in 2007 by automotive designer Henrik Fisker in a joint venture partnership with Quantum Technologies.
