David J. Phillips

David J. Phillips is the Founder and CEO of Fondo, a platform providing automated bookkeeping, tax, and tax credit services for early-stage companies. After earning his economics and accounting degree from UC Santa Barbara, he began his career as an accountant at Deloitte before transitioning into software engineering and entrepreneurship. Previously, Phillips served as Co-founder and CEO of Hackbright Academy, a coding school that trained over 1,000 engineers and bootstrapped to $3.6 million in annual revenue before being acquired by Capella University for $18 million. At Fondo, he has scaled the business to serve more than 1,000 startups while concurrently building a portfolio of over 85 angel investments in companies like Flexport and Liquid Death. An alumnus of Y Combinator, Phillips currently focuses on building financial infrastructure and backing early-stage technology ventures.
