Helmy Eltoukhy

Helmy Eltoukhy is the Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Guardant Health, a precision oncology company based in Redwood City, California. Before establishing Guardant Health with co-founder AmirAli Talasaz, he co-founded the sequencing startup Avantome, which Illumina acquired for $25 million in 2008. Following the acquisition, Eltoukhy served as Senior Director of Advanced Technology Research at Illumina, building upon his doctoral research in electrical engineering at Stanford University. Under his leadership, Guardant Health completed a $238 million initial public offering in 2018 and secured FDA approval for its Shield colorectal cancer screening blood test in July 2024. He holds over 100 patents related to DNA sequencing, guiding an enterprise that serves more than 100,000 patients annually and generates $170 million in quarterly revenue. His career remains focused on advancing non-invasive liquid biopsy technologies for early cancer detection.
