Ilya Sutskever

Ilya Sutskever is the Co-Founder of Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) based in Palo Alto, California. Previously, he served as Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at OpenAI, where he led the technical development of large language models like GPT-4 and helped build the organization to an estimated $80 billion valuation. Before his tenure at OpenAI, he worked as a Research Scientist at Google Brain and earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto under Geoffrey Hinton. With over 400,000 academic citations, he is recognized for co-inventing the AlexNet convolutional neural network. In June 2024, he launched SSI, which subsequently raised $1 billion in venture funding at a $5 billion valuation. Sutskever maintains a primary focus on deep learning research, neural network scaling laws, and the engineering of safe artificial general intelligence systems.
