Jared Friedman is a Managing Director and General Partner at Y Combinator, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to his venture capital career, he gained experience at a pioneering artificial intelligence company before co-founding the digital library platform Scribd in 2006. He left his computer science studies at Harvard University in 2007 to scale Scribd into one of the top 100 most visited websites on the internet. Since joining Y Combinator as a full-time partner in 2015, Friedman has funded and mentored hundreds of early-stage technology founders. He has advised more than twenty unicorn companies, and the broader portfolio of startups he has directly worked with, including Boom and Solugen, holds a combined valuation exceeding $103 billion. His current investment focus spans early-stage consumer technology, B2B software, artificial intelligence, hard-tech, and biotechnology ventures.
