Jim Goetz

Jim Goetz is a Partner at Sequoia Capital and the Founder and Chairman of Mae Philanthropies, currently based in Florida. Before joining the venture firm in 2004, he co-founded VitalSigns Software and served as an institutional investor, following early engineering and leadership roles in the telecommunications sector. He is widely recognized for leading a $60 million early-stage investment in WhatsApp, which generated a return exceeding $3 billion when Facebook acquired the messaging platform for $22 billion in 2014. Goetz has directed multiple successful portfolio exits over his venture career and held board seats at several public technology companies, including a recent four-year directorship at Intel. Drawing on his academic background in engineering, Goetz maintains a professional focus on guiding enterprise and mobile startups through their critical growth phases while managing his regional philanthropic operations.
