Mark Billinghurst is currently a Venture Partner at Super Ventures, an early-stage augmented reality investment fund. He previously founded HIT Lab NZ, an augmented reality research laboratory that successfully generated eight spin-out companies, including Quiver, which secured $1.5 million in seed funding and achieved over two million application downloads. As an entrepreneur, Billinghurst co-founded Envisage AR and ARToolworks, the creator of the widely used open-source tracking library ARToolKit, which was subsequently acquired by DAQRI in 2015. He earned his doctorate from the University of Washington, where he completed the first PhD focused on collaborative augmented reality systems, and he later received the 2013 IEEE VR Technical Achievement award for his work. Today, his professional career remains focused on advancing collaborative augmented reality interfaces, wearable technology, and interaction design across both academic research and commercial venture capital.
