Matias Barbero

Matias Barbero is a Partner at the venture capital firm FJ Labs, where he directs new investments, manages the fintech and growth-stage practices, and oversees exit strategies. Working alongside firm founder Fabrice Grinda, Barbero has led more than 85 individual investments and spearheaded significant secondary exits for late-stage portfolio companies during the 2021 market cycle. Prior to transitioning into venture capital, he built his financial foundation in investment banking at JPMorgan, where he was responsible for structuring complex, multi-billion dollar corporate transactions. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, graduating as a designated Fuqua Scholar and co-founding the Duke MBA Blockchain Club. Today, Barbero leverages his analytical finance background to focus on strategic investments across technology sectors, specifically targeting startups driven by marketplaces, network effects, artificial intelligence, and blockchain.
