Matt Blackwell is the Vice President at BASF Venture Capital, based in Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Promoted to his current role in early 2025, he manages investments from the venture firm's €250 million fund, focusing on early-stage deep tech, advanced materials, and climate tech startups. Over his decade-long venture capital career, Blackwell has been involved in more than 20 venture deals, including leading a 2024 investment in battery recycling company Li-Cycle and participating in the exit of Seeo. Prior to his tenure as an Investment Director, he held strategy consulting and corporate development positions within BASF, and he holds an MBA from INSEAD alongside a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering.
