Matt Cutts is the former Administrator of the United States Digital Service, an agency within the Executive Office of the President tasked with modernizing federal technology. Before entering public service as an Obama appointee, he spent fifteen years at Google, joining in January 2000 to write the first-generation Safe Search filter. He founded and directed Google's web spam prevention department from 2004 to 2015, serving as a prominent industry spokesperson on search engine optimization. During his tenure leading the agency, Cutts expanded the staff to approximately 180 members and a network of 500 alumni while digitizing federal processes like immigration naturalization. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, dedicating his career to leveraging technology to improve government infrastructure.
