Matt McIlwain is a Managing Director at Madrona Venture Group based in Seattle, Washington. With over 25 years of venture capital experience, he currently serves on the board of directors for more than ten active portfolio companies, including Qumulo, MotherDuck, and Amperity. His historical investment track record features several notable technology exits, such as Apptio's $2 billion sale to Vista Equity, Isilon Systems' $2.4 billion acquisition by EMC, and Smartsheet's initial public offering. Before joining Madrona, he worked as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company and held investment banking roles at Credit Suisse, following his graduation from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School. In addition to his investment activities, he teaches a venture capital course at the University of Washington. McIlwain currently focuses his investments on early stage software companies, cloud computing infrastructure, and applied artificial intelligence.
