Matt Tagg

Matt Tagg is the Managing Partner at Knife Capital and the Founder and CEO of the Vumela Foundation, based in Cape Town, South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town and previously co-founded the loyalty software company Kari, which culminated in a successful exit. At Knife Capital, Tagg oversees a portfolio of more than fifty companies, including Yoco and Aerobotics, and recently helped raise a $75 million fund in 2024 to back African technology ventures. Through the Vumela Foundation, he has supported over one hundred entrepreneurs, recently launching its twelfth accelerator cohort focused on artificial intelligence startups in March 2025. His current focus remains on bridging engineering and business growth by providing venture capital and strategic support to early-stage fintech and enterprise software startups across emerging markets.
