Matt Thoms

Matt Thoms is a General Partner at Baukunst based in San Francisco, California, where he leads early-stage investments in enterprise software and developer tools. Before joining the firm as a founding partner in June 2023, he spent five years as a partner at Benchmark and previously worked as a software engineer at multiple early-stage technology startups. At Baukunst, which manages over $500 million in assets, Thoms directs capital toward seed and Series A rounds, recently leading a $50 million Series B investment in Supabase in March 2025. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University and has backed notable technology companies such as the unicorn startup Retool. His current investment focus centers on leveraging his technical engineering background to identify and support founders building advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure and cybersecurity platforms.
