Matthew Hawes

Matthew Hawes is an Associate at 645 Ventures based in New York City, where he focuses on early-stage investments in enterprise software and emerging technologies. At the firm, which manages over $300 million in assets, he has contributed to investments in more than ten portfolio companies, including Varda Space Industries and Sema4 AI. Promoted to his current role in the first quarter of 2025, Hawes recently co-authored research on artificial intelligence infrastructure trends and served as a mentor for the Techstars NYC accelerator program. Before joining 645 Ventures, he gained experience in investment analysis at other venture capital firms and operational roles within technology startups, following his education at the University of Pennsylvania. His current investment focus centers on identifying scalable business models across the enterprise software-as-a-service, machine learning, cybersecurity, financial technology, and developer tools sectors.
