Mona Ashiya

Mona Ashiya is a General Partner at OrbiMed in New York, where she focuses on biotechnology venture capital, special situations, and PIPE investments. Promoted to her current leadership role in July 2025, she leverages the firm's $17 billion in assets under management to back life sciences companies, leading notable investments in Sierra Oncology and ProfoundBio. Ashiya currently serves as a board director for multiple global healthcare entities, including Disc Medicine since 2021 and Shattuck Labs since 2025. Before joining OrbiMed in 2010, she worked on the biotechnology equity research team at JP Morgan, contributed to the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She holds a doctorate in cellular, molecular, and developmental biology from the University of Pittsburgh and an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.
