Nassim Usman

Nassim Usman is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Totus Medicines and a Venture Partner at Morgenthaler Ventures, based in Emeryville, California. In December 2023, he assumed leadership at Totus Medicines while simultaneously closing a $66 million Series B funding round led by DCVC Bio. Through his role at Morgenthaler Ventures, he focuses on seed to Series B biotechnology investments, writing checks ranging from $100,000 to $5 million. His previous executive experience includes serving as President and CEO of Catalyst Biosciences and holding senior leadership positions at Sirna Therapeutics, which was later acquired by Merck. Additionally, he has backed successful portfolio companies such as Principia Biopharma, which secured multiple funding rounds before its acquisition by Sanofi. Usman currently focuses on scaling biotechnology enterprises and advancing small molecule drug discovery utilizing artificial intelligence.
