Oscar Beijbom

Oscar Beijbom is a Principal Engineer at Zoox, where he focuses on perception, planning, and foundational modeling for autonomous vehicles. Previously, he served as the Senior Director of Machine Learning at Motional and co-founded Nyckel, a Y Combinator-funded machine learning API startup. His academic background includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the UC Berkeley AI Research lab under Trevor Darrell, following a doctorate in computer science from UC San Diego and a master's degree in engineering physics from Lund University. Beijbom has accumulated over 9,000 academic citations and holds more than 20 patents, having developed CoralNet, the largest artificial intelligence platform for coral reef image analysis, and led software development for Hövding's airbag bicycle helmet. His current focus centers on advancing computer vision and applied machine learning technologies across autonomous transportation, scientific image analysis, and consumer hardware.
