Paul Berns

Paul Berns is a Managing Director at ARCH Venture Partners based in Middleton, Wisconsin. Before joining the venture firm, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Anacor Pharmaceuticals, guiding the company through its acquisition by Pfizer in 2016. Over his 30-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, he also held chief executive positions at Allos Therapeutics and Bone Care International, leading both of those firms to successful corporate acquisitions. Promoted to Managing Director in 2021, he helps oversee ARCH's $1.85 billion Fund XI and currently serves as Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Neumora Therapeutics. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin and sits on the boards of several biotechnology companies, including Unity Biotechnology and Areteia Therapeutics. His current focus centers on funding and developing early-stage therapeutics across immunology, oncology, and neuroscience.
