Peter Gao

Peter Gao is the Cofounder of Aquarium, an artificial intelligence data platform, and is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He established the startup in 2021 to develop machine learning evaluation tools and subsequently helped secure a $15 million Series A funding round in 2023. Previously, Gao served as the eighteenth employee at Cruise, where he built core self-driving systems prior to the autonomous vehicle company's $1 billion acquisition in 2016. His earlier technical experience includes deep learning and computer vision research at UC Berkeley, alongside specialized machine learning internships at Pinterest and Khan Academy. Additionally, he recently presented research on data quality in autonomous driving at the 2024 Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference. Gao's current focus centers on advancing data-centric artificial intelligence evaluation and engineering scalable machine learning infrastructure for autonomous systems.
