Ray Lian

Ray Lian is a Principal at Scrum Ventures based in San Francisco, California, where he leads early-stage investments in hardware, robotics, and frontier technology sectors. He previously worked as an investor at SOSV and the HAX accelerator, building a venture portfolio that encompasses more than 50 investments across deep tech, artificial intelligence, and climate technology. During his venture capital career, Lian has supported numerous companies scaling through strategic partnerships, with notable portfolio exits including the initial public offering of Matterport. In early 2025, he directed a new robotics startup investment and recently authored a published article analyzing deep tech supply chain innovations. He also spoke on hardware venture trends at a major industry conference in late 2024. Holding an engineering degree from UC Berkeley, Lian currently focuses on connecting innovative hardware founders with global capital resources.
