Regina Barzilay is a Venture Partner at Catalio Capital Management and a Distinguished Professor for AI and Health at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She earned her doctorate in computer science from Columbia University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University before joining the MIT faculty in 2003. Barzilay currently serves on the board of directors for Dewpoint Therapeutics and holds scientific advisory board positions at major pharmaceutical companies, including Amgen and Janssen. Recognized with a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship, her research has driven significant medical breakthroughs, including the 2020 discovery of the novel antibiotic halicin and the development of the Mirai and Sybil artificial intelligence models for early cancer detection.
