Richard Barton is an American internet entrepreneur who currently serves as the co-executive chairman of Zillow Group and a venture partner at Benchmark. He began his career by founding the online travel company Expedia within Microsoft in 1994 before spinning it out into an independent entity. Barton later co-founded the real estate marketplace Zillow and the employment platform Glassdoor, ultimately achieving billionaire status in February 2020 following strong corporate earnings. Beyond his primary ventures, he also sits on the board of directors for Netflix and serves on the Stanford University Board of Trustees. He previously operated as Zillow's chief executive officer until August 2024 and was appointed to Barack Obama's Presidential Ambassadors for Continental Entrepreneurship in 2012. His career focuses on building consumer-facing internet marketplaces across the travel, real estate, and employment sectors.
