Ricky Lai

Ricky Lai is a General Partner at Portage Ventures based in Toronto, Canada, where he focuses on early-stage financial technology investments across North America. Since joining the firm in 2017 and becoming a partner in 2021, he has managed global fintech opportunities and worked closely with portfolio companies including KOHO, Nesto, and TheGuarantors. Previously, Lai served as an Associate at Mithril360, the analytics and portfolio management affiliate of Mithril Capital Management, and was an early employee at a US responsible consumer lending startup. He began his career in the deal advisory practice at KPMG, specializing in software and healthcare transactions, after earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo. Lai leverages his background as a Chartered Professional Accountant to guide strategic financial investments within the early-stage technology sector.
