Sevgi Gurkan

Sevgi Gurkan is a physician and venture capital professional currently serving as a Venture Partner at OrbiMed. Before joining the investment firm in 2018, she was a founding member of the Merck Research Laboratories South San Francisco Discovery site and worked as a Director in Early Drug Development. Prior to her corporate career, Gurkan practiced as a clinical pediatric nephrologist, holding academic and medical positions as an Associate Professor at Rutgers and the Director of the Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program at RWJ University Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University, completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Southern California, and received a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Gurkan combines her clinical and pharmaceutical background to focus on early-stage venture capital investing in biotechnology companies developing novel therapeutic mechanisms.
