Steve Kafka

Steve Kafka is a Managing Partner at Section 32, a venture capital firm based in San Diego, California. Before joining the firm from Third Rock Ventures, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer at Foundation Medicine, which was acquired by Roche in 2018. He also operated as the founding Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman at Thrive Earlier Detection until its acquisition by Exact Sciences in January 2021, and held the Executive Chairman role at ArcherDX prior to its October 2020 sale to Invitae. In his current capacity, he has co-led investments in biotechnology startups including C2i Genomics and CelsiusTx, while serving as Chairman of the Board for Glympse Bio. Holding a doctorate from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree from Stanford University, Kafka focuses his investments on the intersection of technology, molecular diagnostics, and life sciences.
