Taner Topal

Taner Topal is a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge specializing in the development of federated learning and machine learning frameworks. He co-created Flower, the first fully agnostic federated learning framework, which is currently utilized by numerous Fortune 500 companies and leading academic institutions globally. Prior to his current academic role, Topal served as the Chief Technology Officer and Head of Engineering at two different technology startups, where he managed technical teams and product architecture. During his tenure in the private sector, he led the development of artificial intelligence solutions that were subsequently adopted by major enterprise clients across the automotive, aviation, and energy sectors, including Porsche, Lufthansa, and Vattenfall. His professional background centers on advancing scalable artificial intelligence systems and bridging the gap between academic machine learning research and enterprise engineering applications.
