Tom Hawes

Tom Hawes is a Partner at Sandbox Industries and a member of the BlueCross BlueShield Fund Management team, focusing on healthcare investments. He holds an M.D. from New York Medical College, completed his initial residency training at the Yale School of Medicine, and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. As an active venture capital investor, Hawes serves as Board Chairman of Patientco and holds director positions at health technology companies including Octave Bioscience, Oncology Analytics, and AbleTo. He also acts as a board observer for prominent healthcare enterprises such as HeartFlow, Thrive Earlier Detection, and Phreesia, leveraging his dual expertise to scale digital health, analytics, and bioscience startups. Prior to his investment career, he conducted clinical research at the National Cancer Institute, earned a BA from Brigham Young University, and was selected as a Kauffman Fellow.
