Tomi Poutanen

Tomi Poutanen is a Co-founder and Partner at Radical Ventures and the CEO and Co-founder of Signal 1, a health AI startup based in Toronto, Canada. At Radical Ventures, he helps manage over US$2.5 billion in assets, backing frontier artificial intelligence companies like Cohere, which reached a US$5.5 billion valuation in 2025. Before his current roles, he co-founded Layer 6 AI, which was acquired by TD Bank Group in 2018, leading him to serve as the bank's Chief AI Officer and SVP. He previously founded four other artificial intelligence companies that resulted in successful exits to major technology corporations, including Microsoft and Yahoo!. Holding an MBA and an MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, he co-authored Canada’s first National AI Policy in 2017 and is a founding fellow at the Creative Destruction Lab.
