Chris Phillips is a Professor and head of the Optoelectronics section at Imperial College London, based in London, United Kingdom. He joined the university's physics department in 1985 and previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences from 2008 to 2011, following a visiting researcher position at the University of California, Santa Barbara between 1997 and 1998. Alongside collaborator Hemmel Amrania, Phillips co-developed Digistain, a biomedical imaging technology for cancer diagnosis that earned the Institute of Physics Business Startup Award and an Innovate UK SMART Award in 2022. His broader research portfolio encompasses quantum metamaterials, ultra-efficient solar cells, and electromagnetically induced transparency, supported by institutional grants like the 2019 Cancer Research UK Pioneer Award. Phillips currently focuses on advancing quantum optics and semiconductor nanostructures to commercialize novel healthtech solutions and oncology diagnostics.
