Richard Chen

Richard Chen is a Managing Partner at Bain Capital Ventures in San Francisco, California, where he leads early-stage investments in enterprise software and artificial intelligence. Prior to assuming this position in 2023, he served as a Principal at Foundation Capital and held investment roles at Scale Venture Partners. Throughout his career, Chen has managed over $200 million in investments across a portfolio of more than 20 companies, participating in notable exits like Gainsight's 2020 acquisition by Vista Equity Partners and Gong's 2021 initial public offering. He recently led a $50 million Series B funding round for the AI startup Vecna Robotics in early 2025. Holding an MBA and BA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, Chen focuses his current strategy on scaling early-stage enterprise technology, cybersecurity, and fintech startups.
